The Best Tools for Video in the Classroom

Video has become the single most powerful tool for educators in the classroom in my opinion. Gone are the days when students would tell their parents, “All we do is watch videos,” and soon the parent was reporting the teacher to the administration. Now students are creating videos themselves and teachers are using them in ways they never dreamed of. I began my career in video. Video edit bays rented for $3-4,000 a day back then and everyone was editing on (gasp!) tape. There are still teachers who are mourning the loss of their VHS machines in the classroom as their dozens of...

Collaborative Google Videos? Say what?

I will say it again. Collaborative Google Slide activities are my favorite go-to lesson and sub-plan. Lately I have been doing at least one collaborate Google activity a week. What I love is the ease of grading and presenting. One slide deck, one document, one anything. Then this week the light bulb went off in my head and I realized I could do this with my student videos. ISTE 2017 Reflections

There are so many things you can say about the ISTE experience. For one, it is completely overwhelming. From meeting celebrity educators like Alice Keeler, inspiring keynotes from the likes of Jennie Magiera, to the new and innovative teaching techniques and tools. This year was better than last at least for me for a number of reasons. Let’s start with the location. San Antonio has one of the nicest convention centers I have ever been in. My hotel was right across the street on the beautiful Riverwalk which was an added bonus. ¬†Lastly, I got to see Adam Bellow and Kathy Schrock in the...

5 Tips for ISTE 2017

Last year was my first ISTE conference. It was completely overwhelming. It was not only my first time at this conference, it was also my first visit to Denver. This year, I will be traveling to San Antonio for the event. As with any large conference, ¬†you will go back to your hotel room every night with a migraine if you are not prepared. So here is my advice for all first timers. Don’t try and attend sessions all day long. Seriously, your head will explode. Pick a couple of really relevant ones for each day. You may even want to just focus on one topic, say coding or Google Apps....
