Master Class World Tour

What could be better than spending a whole day, diving in depth to a lesson, with Holly Clark, Trevor MacKenzie, and Kelly Hilton and ending it with a fabulous boat ride and food tour of Chicago? Really as far as Professional Development goes, NOTHING!! I signed up for the Master Class World Tour Leadership strand back in spring. I had no idea how rewarding the whole experience would be. I am pretty sure I know Google well, and can create a Hyperdoc like a pro, but combining those to create a deep, inquiry based lesson is entirely new to me. There is always so much to learn, and just when...

Google Earth Bound CAGTI17

What is CAGTI? This is the acronym for California Geo Teacher Institute, one of many Google workshops held at one of their campuses. And it is by invitation only. Still adjusting to disappointment of not getting into the Washington DC Innovator Academy, and frustrated because the one in Sydney was being held the first week of school, I was more than a little thrilled to be accepted to this cohort. Held in Mountain View (bonus!) for 3 days, this was the highlight of my summer PD. The Google Campus is unbelievable. It’s everything you hear about and more. The toilets are an experience...

ISTE 2017 Reflections

There are so many things you can say about the ISTE experience. For one, it is completely overwhelming. From meeting celebrity educators like Alice Keeler, inspiring keynotes from the likes of Jennie Magiera, to the new and innovative teaching techniques and tools. This year was better than last at least for me for a number of reasons. Let’s start with the location. San Antonio has one of the nicest convention centers I have ever been in. My hotel was right across the street on the beautiful Riverwalk which was an added bonus.  Lastly, I got to see Adam Bellow and Kathy Schrock in the...

5 Tips for ISTE 2017

Last year was my first ISTE conference. It was completely overwhelming. It was not only my first time at this conference, it was also my first visit to Denver. This year, I will be traveling to San Antonio for the event. As with any large conference,  you will go back to your hotel room every night with a migraine if you are not prepared. So here is my advice for all first timers. Don’t try and attend sessions all day long. Seriously, your head will explode. Pick a couple of really relevant ones for each day. You may even want to just focus on one topic, say coding or Google Apps....

Innovator-the Long and Winding Google Road

Waiting to find out if you made the most recent Google Innovator Cohort #WDC17 is painful. You check your email all day, hang out on Twitter, and pretend not to be doing these things while at work. I thought the date was yesterday. I instead got another surprise-I was invited to the Google Geo Institute in Mountain View. Yes, I’m going to the Mothership. In looking up  the location on the map to find hotels I realize that the Googleplex is really a small city in itself. So why don’t they have a Google themed hotel and waterpark nearby? I should mention that I first applied for...
